Tell us about why you opened JAAS Nails

I love getting my nails done and I have patronized many different nail salons in Edmonton but I have not found a place that I can call my “go to“ salon for a gel manicures and pedicures.

I don’t mind spending more money for a quality service and products. For years I have not been completely happy nor satisfied. I felt like there is always something lacking. There wasn’t any wow factor.

That’s when the idea of opening JAAS Nails came to mind.

My Vision

What is your vision for JAAS Nails?

My vision for JAAS Nails is to be known for its utmost level of quality service - a white glove service. For our clients - the goal is to create and establish a long lasting relationship of trust and confidence that they are in our best care.

Why nails?

Have you always been passionate about the industry?

I have always wanted to have my own business and I have always been passionate about helping people look their best. I know that if enough effort is put forth to build a great environment with superior service, then there will be success. Since I’ve always fancied beautiful nails, it was natural to try open our own salon.

What makes a good nail experience and why?

A good nail experience is when you are pampered, relaxed and your nails are beautiful made, then our clients will remember that service and come back.

Business

What are you the most proud of when it comes to your business?

It’s all personal to me as it is my personal concept. I am proud of its uniqueness - from elegant customized furniture, to beautiful chandeliers, to finest and carefully chosen products that do no harm (organic 100% vegan cruelty products that we use), and this helps deliver a top notch service.

Have you always wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Yes, I have. I’ve had success as manager in my previous career, and been able to engage with customers has always been my strength. This fits will with been a business owner. At the same time, I love the freedom of putting your vision into a reality.

And the bonus of owning your own time. Also, this is our family’s second business, so I guess our previous experience helped compel me to start another business.

Advice?

What advice would you give to someone looking to begin a career in nails?

Invest in a good school and get a lot of training and practice. Be patient to learn as it takes a lot of experience to become a really good nail technician. It helps to be up to date with the latest trends.

In general, being a nail technician is a career that takes time to hone your craft. Experience is crucial to build the appropriate experience.

JAAS inspiration

Where did you get the inspiration for JAAS Nails? ​

I like to be pampered like feel like royalty. That was my inspiration.

Where does the name JAAS come from?

Its a combination of my family’s name’s initials.

J (Joan, my youngest daughter’s middle name)

A (Andrew, my husband’s first name)

A (Alexia, my oldest daughter’s first name)

S (Shenen, my first name)

Also, our IT business was founded as Jaas Services Inc. so we wanted to keep the same name.

Why St. Albert?

Why St. Albert?

St. Albert is one of Alberta’s most beautiful cities that has a strong business community, thus making it attractive and appealing for entrepreneurs to conduct business.

We were getting ready to build our first salon in Glenora, unfortunately the property was expropriated for the new LRT line. While this delayed our opening, it allowed us to find this great location in St. Albert.

We also love this location as there was a second floor already in place, and sold us on the idea of incorporating a bar into the salon as well. Lastly, is also an advantage as this location is close to my home and my oldest daughter’s school.
